You are cordially invited to a Tuesday Evening Salon,
followed by Refuge Vows,
to be held at the Shambhala Center on February 5th, 2013.
Potluck Salon 7:00-8:30
Refuge Vows 8:30-9:00
A salon is a gathering of people held partly to amuse one another and partly to increase knowledge through conversation. In Shambhala culture, a salon includes food to enjoy and a topic around which participants can have a casual and free-ranging conversation.
The topic for Tuesday’s salon is “cultivating a learning community.”
The beating heart and vibrancy of a Shambhala Center is a learning community. What conditions allow people to come together, meditate, look deeply and patiently at their own experience, openly explore with others, and have a unique kind of conversation that is difficult to have in most contexts?
Some possible subtopics might include: What qualities does the Houston Shambhala sangha manifest that encourages such a learning community? What qualities could be cultivated further? What can I contribute?
For those who are able, you are invited to witness a refuge vow ceremony following the salon.
