Joy in Everyday Life (Eagle Rock)
with Jonathan Ransohoff & Joel Wachbrit
March 26 / 7:30 PM - April 23 / 9:30 PM
Prerequisites: Contentment in Everyday Life (CIEL). It is also highly recommended that students have taken Shambhala Training Level Three.
We often approach our lives with the idea that joy comes from the fulfillment of our personal desires. Through an exploration of the Buddhist teachings on intelligent compassion towards others, we begin to discover the confidence and inspiration for a life of cheerful discipline, health and bravery.
This is the third class in our core curriculum The Way of Shambhala. The class includes meditation instruction, talks, periods of meditation practice, discussion, and a variety of contemplative practice activities.
Jon Ransohoff started meditating with Chogyam Trungpa's community in Boston in 1975 and began his studies the following summer at Naropa Institute. He has served as head practice instructor at the Berkeley Shambhala Center and returns to teaching Shambhala Levels after quite a few years with fresh perspective and training in the Way of Shambhalacurriculum. Jon lives with his wife in their Oakland empty nest and is currently on a two year work assignment at Los Angeles County Mental Health.
Joel Wachbrit is a student of Sakyong Mipham Rinpoche and has been a member of the LA Shambhala community since 1989. He has held many positions at SMCLA, the most recent was as Co-Director. Before that he served as Head of Buddhist Education for 7 years. Joel composes music for TV and film and is an accomplished guitarist. He is married to Jill Freeman and they have several children – all with four legs.
Please refrain from wearing perfume, cologne, or scented products to the LA Shambhala Center as some of our participants have severe scent-related allergies.
