Introduction to Meditation
with Shastri Marian Bond
The purpose of learning to meditate is to study ourselves and to tame our own mind. When we start on the path of meditation we create an environment that encourages the quality of wakefulness in our being. It is present when we pay attention to what is going on around us. It is about training our minds to be more focused, to see with clarity, to have space for creativity and to feel connected.
It has practical implications for our work life – when we are fully present on the job we are more effective leaders, we make better decisions, and we work better with other people. Waking up in our workplace allows our mindfulness practice to flow smoothly and we can be of great benefit to ourselves and others.
This two-hour introduction to meditation program is appropriate for anyone wishing to learn the basics of meditation, as well as for experienced practitioners wanting to refresh and renew their practice. The program consists of a talk on the purpose, effects and value of meditation, guided meditation instruction including sitting and walking meditation, and finally a group discussion.
