Milarepa Day 2013
February 23 / 9:00 AM - February 23 / 8:00 PM
**Please continue to check this program listing, as the times of this celebratory day may change slightly**
With the guidance of a teacher, Milarepa sought spiritual enlightenment to purify his bad karma. His resulting wisdom attracted many disciples and he eventually became the greatest yogi of the Kagyü Lineage. He taught his students through songs of realization and many spiritual masters who came after him followed his example. A collection of these songs was compiled into a book, entitled The Rain of Wisdom.
This is an annual commemoration of the life and enlightenment of Milarepa. During this celebration, we chant chanting the Milarepa sadhana, and the songs and stories of realization of our Kagyü lineage forefathers, which are collected in The Rain of Wisdom. These songs were composed spontaneously out of the spiritual understanding of many great Kagyü teachers, including Milarepa. They express deep insight and heartfelt devotion, and their beauty and intensity have made them famous in Tibetan literature.
Various sangha members will be leading different part of this special day, so please come for however long you are able and participate in chanting these special songs and stories with the group. Depending on the timing, this celebration may end earlier than 8pm.
This gathering is OPEN to ALL, and is free. Donations are gratefully accepted for tea and snacks. Lunch will be from 12:30 - 1:30pm and is on your own ... so feel free to bring your "brown bag" and eat with the group, or there may be some who wish to do a "group take out" order.
If you have a copy of the Rain of Wisdom, please bring it with you. A few extra copies are available. Reading aloud with the group, while encouraged, is not required. You can just come and listen to these amazing songs.
