The Way of Shambhala: Joy in Everyday Life
January 7 / 7:00 PM - February 4 / 9:00 PM
Through an exploration of the Buddhist teachings on intelligent compassion toward others, we begin to discover the joy of discipline, health and bravery. The meditation practice expands outward, including more of the environment, more of the "other." The warriors are led out into the world.
This simple movement corresponds to the transition from the hinayana discipline of mindfulness to the broad mahayana path of awareness and compassion. The heart of the mahayana is an interest in others.
We introduce the language of the "Warrior-Bodhisattva." This in turn, invokes the joy of the perky snow lion, leaping in the high realms. The lion breathes the fresh air beyond the cocoon. This cheerful, perky, joy provides the inspiration and energy to go forward on the journey of compassion and warriorship.
The path of Shambhala is here to awaken us to the potential of our lives. It teaches us how to live meaningfully and vigorously, with joy. Its ancient but practical wisdom allows us to discover unconditional human confidence. Through the practice of meditation, we discover that goodness, strength, and wisdom are inherent in our own mind and being. Having gained this insight, we are able to maneuver through life with courage, intelligence, and compassion. Daily life becomes an opportunity to further cultivate these qualities. In Shambhala this journey is exemplified by the tiger, lion, garuda, and dragonfour animals that each reveal to us a specific wisdom. As we fully realize these enlightened qualities, we are able to rouse them for a world that desperately needs this knowledge and experience. I look forward to working with you as we make this journey together.
