Milarepa Day Community Gathering in Brunswick - All Welcome
February 24 / 9:00 AM - February 24 / 2:30 PM
PLEASE NOTE THERE IS WINTER STORM FORECASTED FOR SATURDAY NIGHT AND SUNDAY. THERE WILL BE AT LEAST A SMALL GROUP PRACTICING ON SUNDAY. If you feel comfortable driving we would love to have you join us.
Each year the Shambhala community honors the 11th century Buddhist Mahasiddha Milarepa with a unison recitation of songs of realization found in one of the first books translated by Chogyam Trungpa Rinpoche, the Rain of Wisdom. This year the office of Societal Health and WellBeing is teaming up with the office of Practice and Study for this day of celebration and reflection.
Following the 9AM to noon recitation of selected songs of realization we’ll move into a noon time social potluck lunch gathering. Following, we’ll explore the life of Milarepa who had accumulated considerable negative karma in his early life. Realizing remorse and with great determination, he made the transition to realization in one lifetime. Using footage from the movie Milarepa, Magician, Murderer, Saint, present day scholars and teachers reflect on the relevance of his life journey to our modern world.
All Welcomed. Registration will be especially helpful for planning purposes. Donations are always welcome.
