Kyoto Comes to Casa Garuda: The Way of Tea & The Way of Shambhala
with Jack Convery & Brian Hilliard
April 27 / 5:00 PM - May 4 / 11:00 AM
The practice of Chado, The Way of Tea, or The Way of Peace, is a 2,500 year-old tradition of Dharma art. We will enter into an atmosphere of the direct and naked experience of ordinary mind, where we can discover our own nature, the contentment of just being, as we are. Finding freedom in this way, we place others before ourselves, and enjoy together a delicious Bowl of Tea. Chado is Just that! Only that! In sharing together human wisdom is passed on, from teacher to student, person to person, hand to hand and heart to heart. This wisdom is transmitted in the moment of nowness and flows from the past into the future.
The retreat is the transmission of Tea through listening to and understanding the instructions, through their contemplation and the resulting personal discovery of one's own heart of basic goodness. As this discovery is extended into daily life, 24 hour experience, confidence in our goodness, our wisdom, expands. We will offer a bowl of tea for peace into the four directions, thus invoking peace and harmony onto the land and into the retreat.
We will also offer teachings on the Way of Shambhala and Basic Goodness which will complement and expand our experience of Chado. We will have the opportunity to practice sitting meditation which enables us to contact our heart of goodness, the ground of a compassionate and awake society.
We invite you to join us in what will surely be a profound and enjoyable retreat.
