- 6:30 pm: Free meditation instruction is provided in a separate room.
- 7:30 – 8:15 pm: Open House talk. Topics vary, but these talks often provide a basic introduction to the path of meditation. Talks are free and open to the public.
On this Thursday, October 10th, we are pleased to have Acharya Richard John as our Open House speaker. The title of his talk is, "Making Life Choices."
We make choices every moment, often without paying attention. Sometimes we make important decisions that will alter the course of our entire life. How do we choose? Are our choices based on accumulated habits, or on sound wisdom? Will our choices create benefit for ourselves and others, or will they lead to further confusion?
We will explore these questions, and look at practical criteria drawn from the Shambhala Buddhist teachings.
An early student of Chogyam Trungpa Rinpoche, Acharya Richard John was appointed an acharya by Sakyong Mipham Rinpoche. For many years, he has taught Shambhala Buddhist programs in North America, New Zealand, Australia, Mexico and Chile. After careers as a designer and a management consultant, he served as director of the Halifax Shambhala Centre. He completed the first three-year group retreat at Gampo Abbey, and he now teaches full time. Richard and his wife Liz reside in Halifax, Nova Scotia.
