Bodhi School provides children and young teenagers with education in the tradition of Shambhala Buddhism as well as providing youth with an opportunity to experience one of the Three Jewels – sangha.

Together, we explore meditative principles as a way to work with the heart and mind. We explore the idea of basic goodness as a way to instill confidence, bravery and kindness, and discover how the principles of compassion and loving-kindness can be vehicles for working with oneself and others in the world.

We also discover how to be mindful and cultivate awareness of the moment.  Children naturally connect with this type of awareness.  One Bodhi School student, when asked in class what his best day was, replied “Now, right now, is my best day.” (Noah, age 7)

The 2013 school year will highlight the importance of community or sangha.  We will discover what the Buddha meant by “strive forth with diligence” as we interact with others and come to learn how to operate in the world with kindness, generosity, and forgiveness.  In Noah Levine’s words, the Buddha “was clear about the need to have wise friends to walk the path to awakening with, to meditate with, and to serve with.”  These concepts will guide our path of discovery in 2013.

Bodhi School welcomes youth from the Shambhala community and the general public.  We have two groups: Garudas (grades 1-5) and Dragons (grades 6th and up--please click on DRAGONS link below).  This enables us to provide age-appropriate lessons and activities.

There is also a Tiger and Lions play group for the Kindergarten and under crowd. A parent is required in the room at all times with their child and there are toys and books at the center as well.

Bodhi School meets once a month on the first Sunday of the month, January through June from 10:15 am – 12:00 pm. First time guests and Dragons are asked to come at 10:00 am for pre-registration. There is a suggested donation of $5 per child; $10 per family.  The donation allows us to buy supplies for projects.

WE consider the opening and closing of our school year to be our Solstice Day celebrations: Children’s Day (more info on website) December 22, from 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM and Midsummer’s Day in June-information to be posted later.
