Intro Dharma Talk: Holiday Madness - meditation and staying sane through the winter holidays

with Pamela Bothwell
December 6 / 7:30 PM - December 6 / 9:30 PM

Holiday lights on the streets and Xmas carols in the supermarket, the stage set for this time of year in Southern California pushes us to shop and be cheery—and yet, the days are shorter and darker.  Traditionally, this is the season for celebrating family and friends, honoring the changes in the seasons, and relaxing into the evenings—and yet the pressure’s on to buy buy buy and party party party.

Feeling oneself in the moment, resting with the complexity and chaos of our emotions and the tugs of the season can be poignant and liberating if we are able to be present.  Meditation offers a way to be present through the chaos and pressure of daily life, and to enjoy the depth and richness of our humanness.

Shastri Pamela Bothwell first encountered the Dharma at Tail of the Tiger (Karme Chöling Buddhist Contemplative Center) in Vermont in 1973. She has served as co-director of the New York Shambhala Center; Head of Practice and Study at Karme-Chöling; Head of Study at the San Francisco Shambhala Center; Ambassador to the Los Angeles Shambhala Center; and Co-Director of the Los Angeles Shambhala Center. In 2010, she was appointed by Sakyong Mipham Rinpoche as Shastri for Los Angeles.
