Shambhala Meditation Dathün: Feeling, Being and Touching Basic Goodness

December 14 / 5:00 PM - January 14 / 5:00 PM

The Shambhala Mountain Center 2012 winter dathün will focus on developing a deep understanding of shamatha, or “peaceful abiding” meditation. It will introduce Shambhala Meditation, Sakyong Mipham Rinpoche’s new approach to connecting with basic goodness as the ground for meditation practice.

Shambhala meditation allows us to “turn our mind into an ally,” so that we can fulfill our human potential for sanity, kindness and strength. The meditation practices taught by the Sakyong are the foundation of all other practices in the Buddhist and Shambhala traditions.

Our program will include individual meditation instruction, guided meditations to deepen our shamatha practice, and contemplative meditation to develop insight and open our hearts of compassion.

Register for the entire Dathün or a Weekthün

The dathün is a month-long journey to deepen in the practice of meditation. If you have not attended a week or more of dathün previously, please register for week one or week two. If you have a situation that requires an exception to the guidelines below, we can arrange for you to discuss this with the program directors:

  • If you wish to enter in the Weekthün I, you feel inspired to do an intensive group retreat. If you already have a meditation practice, that is a good foundation.

  • If you wish to enter in the Weekthün II, it is suggested that you have already completed some Shambhala Training Levels or attended other meditation programs.

  • If you wish to enter the Weekthün III, it is suggested that you have already completed at least one weekthün and are already familiar with oryoki.
