Half Dathün: Two-Week Shambhala Meditation Retreat
with Patricia Hayward
March 8 / 5:00 PM - March 23 / 5:00 PM
This Program has a FREE tuition option! In this two-week retreat (or half-dathün), we will introduce Shambhala Meditation, Sakyong Mipham Rinpoche's new practice of connecting directly with basic goodness as the ground for meditation practice and everyday life. The basic practice of shamatha will be developed over the course of the retreat and the structure of the two weeks will reflect the wisdom of the Four Dignities.
For beginning as well as advanced practitioners, this program will provide a powerful experience at any age or stage of life. Deepen your meditation practice, as well as fulfill group practice requirements for the Shambhala Buddhist path. The retreat consists of individual meditation instruction, guided meditation, contemplations, and dharma talks, which develop insight and open our hearts. Each day follows a traditional schedule, with periods of sitting and walking meditation, exercises, chants, and a short work session. Functional silence is observed for most of the retreat, and meals are served in 'Shambhala contemplative householder ' style.
Participants are encouraged to attend the entire program. If you can only attend one week, it's preferable if you come to week one, but we do have some participants entering for week two. Arrival and departure days for the one-week periods are March 8-16 for week one, and March 15-23 for week two.
Additional aspects of the program include one-on-one meditation instruction with an experienced meditation instructor, guided sessions of meditation, contemplative meditation and a wonderful festive dinner to celebrate the closing of this powerful retreat.
This program fulfills the weekthün or half-dathün practice requirement for the Shambhala Buddhist path.
The following texts are required for this retreat:
An Introduction to Shambhala Culture
The Shambhala Practice of Dathun: A Month of Meditation

Full program tuition plus accommodations: $950.95 We invite all who are able to do so to pay the full tuition rate. Interest free payment plans for 6 months are an option for those who choose this tuition level.
Discounted program tuition plus accommodations: $530.95 If the full tuition is unworkable for you, please pay the discounted rate if you can. By doing so you contribute towards the cost of your being here and everything it takes to keep DDL operating year-round.

Free tuition option: only pay lodging and materials fee
Please Note: Above price includes meals but not accommodations. For winter programs, double and triple rooms with shared hallway bathrooms are available in Gyatso Lodge for $35 per night, so for this program the lodging cost would be an additional $525.
