This is a vow to take refuge in the three jewels, the Buddha, the dharma and the sangha; a formal commitment to the Buddhist path of practice and study in our lineage.
It is open to anyone who sincerely wants to do it as long as they have studied and practiced for a while and understand what it means to take the vow.
Some preparations are required:
Participants need to meet with their meditation instructor and have studied the Refuge Vow Sourcebook, which contains suggested readings can be ordered here ($17 plus shipping).
Acharya Melissa Moore will be offering a talk on the meaning of taking refuge on Tuesday, October 30, 2012 at 7:30 pm at the San Francisco Shambhala Center (as part of their Open House).

An interview with Acharya John prior to the ceremony is required. The interview will take approximately 15 minutes. The following are the opportunities for interviews; please select the date and location that works for you and contact the person listed for that location:

The Refuge Vow ceremony will take place on Thursday evening, November 15th beginning at 7:00 pm. Those taking the vow may bring guests. A reception will follow.
