Bodhisattva Vows

with Richard John
December 9 / 6:00 PM - December 9 / 6:45 PM

The BODHISATTVA VOW is a further commitment to put others before oneself and to work wholeheartedly for their benefit. The basis of this vow is the aspiration to develop friendliness, compassion, and genuine insight through the practice of the six Paramitas and to undertake the view and practice of the Mahayana.

Individuals wishing to take the Bodhisattva Vow should meet with their Meditation Instructor about this decision and study the Bodhisattva Vow Sourcebook (copies of which can be purchased online from Samadhi Cushion)

or can be purchased at the Center.  There is also a chapter on the Bodhisattva Vow in Chogyam Trungpa's Heart of the Buddha.

Acharya John will give brief, required interviews to all Vow takers on Thursday and Friday, December 6-7, between 2:00 and 6:00 p.m.  Please arrange this appointment with Eric Laufe (email below).   We will try to accommodate out-of-towners with these.

If you want to take the vow but do not have a Meditation Instructor, please contact me at the email below.

There will be a $20 materials fee.

For the Bodhisattva Vow, it is customary to offer a gift (of symbolic or real value) to the lineage, as a gesture of giving something precious away.

It is also customary to make a cash gift to the preceptor who gives you the vow.  This is separate from the Bodhisattva gift.  The amount is entirely up to you.  This is how they make their living.

Please feel free to contact me if you have questions.
