 How to Live Compassionately in a Troubled World Winter Retreat

In addition to meditation practice, we will listen to dharma talks offered by Acharya Pema Chödrön. (Talks are daily at 10:15 am. DVD replay of 4 talks from Pema Chödrön’s program How to Live Compassionately in A Troubled World, which is based on Chapter 5 of Shantideva’s The Way of the Bodhisattva.) Group discussion will follow.
This intensive is intended for individuals who have an established practice. (It is not intended as an opportunity to learn to meditate. Contact the Center for Learn to Meditate opportunities.)
Doors will open at 7:45 am; Practice from 8 am – 12:30 pm daily. There is no registration required. Participate for the full week or drop in for as much as you can. (If you drop in, please do so during 8:50-9 walking meditation; 10-10:15 break; 11:50-12 walking meditation. Please maintain silence as you enter and leave.) Coffee & tea will be provided. No food provided, but you may bring your own refreshments. A refrigerator is available. There is no cost for this program. Donations are greatly appreciated. If you attend the full intensive, please donate what you can ($50 or more is encouraged.) A portion of the contributions will go to the Pema Chödrön Foundation.
Daily Meditation Schedule
[NOTE: Noble Silence to be maintained from 8 am – 12:30 pm, except during group discussion]
7:45 am Center opens (please arrive and settle in between 7:45 am and 8 am)
8:00 am Opening chants; sitting meditation begins
8:50 am Walking meditation
9:00 am Sitting meditation resumes
9:50 am Shamatha Yoga
10:00-10:15 am Silent coffee/tea/break; BYO snacks
10:15-11:45am Pema Chödrön: DVD of dharma talk followed by group discussion
11:50 am Walking meditation (or sooner if group discussion ends sooner)
12:00-12:30 pm Sitting meditation resumes; Closing chants
12:30-1:00pm Break silence; clean up and close the Center
