As the days grow shorter, we are making preparations for Children’s Day, our Winter Solstice holiday party.
We will gather as family of little ones and adults to celebrate and share music and activities. We will decorate the center with candles and lights, bringing back the glow that nourishes us during this dark season. And, as is customary, we will have a King and Queen presiding over the event.
Children's Day is a time of learning about and practicing generosity. While children often receive gifts at home as part of the celebrations, it's also a great time to encourage them think about what they can give to others. On Children's Day, it is traditional for kids to bring a toy to place on the shrine as a gift to be donated to a child in need. As adults, we will also have an opportunity to express our generosity in the form of a holiday food drive, please bring non-perishable food and/or winter clothing to donate.
3:00 PM Parents and children arrive.
5:30 PM Adults arrive for refreshements and to watch the procession of the King and Queen into the shrine room.
Our festivities will end this year at 7 PM so adults can join the Berkeley sangha in their annual Winter Solstice Party
. We can form carpools to drive over to BSC together.
If you are planning to bring a child, and are not already on our Parent's email list, please email Barry Solomon for details regarding the event: barrysolo [at] gmail [dot] com.
