Way of Shambhala II: Emptiness:: Exploring the Heart Sutra
with Billy Boyar & Bobby Hudgins
April 25 / 7:00 PM - June 1 / 5:00 PM
The Heart Sutra is a classic Buddhist instruction in the Mahayana tradition: an ancient chant which opens our mind to the fundamental empty nature of all phenomena. Perhaps the best know of the sutras, the Heart Sutra is known for making its wisdom accessible and relevant to students at every stage of the path.
When the teachings of the Heart Sutra first occurred, its proclamation of emptiness was so powerful that several highly realized disciples died of heart attacks. Yet today we can read it without missing a beat. In this course we will study the sutra and bring these teachings alive so that we can take them to heart. This classic set of teachings breaks down our concepts of reality and shows us a world free of extremes.
This is an intermediate level course covering challenging material - students should have at least a cursory understanding of the Hinayana and Mahayana practice and view. As a part of the Way of Shambhala II curriculum, this class is required prior to attending Sacred World Assembly.
Class Tuition: $90.00. Generosity Policy applies: The Austin Shambhala Center does not wish restricted finances ever to interfere with one’s ability to receive the teachings – If you need to arrange a payment plan or negotiate a reduced tuition, please make arrangements prior to the program by contacting Evan Trimble at firstname.lastname@example.org.
