First Thursday Open House & Dharma Night
with Janet Ryvlin
May 2 / 7:00 PM - May 2 / 8:30 PM
These informal events serve as an introduction to our Center, to Shambhala Buddhism and the practice of peaceful abiding meditation, as well as an opportunity for our current friends and members to share in the Dharma.
We begin our Open House evenings at 7:00 p.m. with meditation instruction and a short period of sitting meditation practice. At around 7:30, we provide either a short Dharma talk or video followed by a group discussion.
Afterwards, we adjourn for tea and snacks in our cafe-style community room and chat with Shambhala practitioners and other visitors.
There's plenty of time for visitors to ask any questions they may have and also to explore in greater depth the topic of the evening. The evening ends between 8:30 and 9:00.
Our guest speaker for October is Janet Ryvlin, R.N. Her program is entitled:
Hanging Out with Death: Part 2
Death is not a Tragedy
There's no escaping death. We resist the notion of impermanence on a daily basis, yet it pervades our lives. Nothing stays the same. Everything changes. Death comes without warning. Including young or old, death is not picky when it comes.
Continuing our discussion from our August Open House, we will ask again, is it possible to truly relax with the knowledge that we and everyone we know and love, will die? Buddhist teachings direct us to open our hearts to the often shocking experience of loss, to believe that our tender broken heart is our strength and to trust that our nature is whole, vast and compassionate.
We look forward to meeting you!
ALL ARE WELCOME!
