Shambhala Day

February 11 / 7:30 AM - February 11 / 2:00 PM

Year of the Water Snake

SHAMBHALA DAY, one of the most important traditions of Shambhala Buddhism, marks the beginning of the New Year.  Shambhala Day is a time for us to express the wealth and richness of our spiritual and cultural heritage through feasting, conviviality, elegance and pomp.

7:30 AM: We will have coffee and morning treats.

8:00 AM: We will begin our festivities with a traditional gin toast to the Great Eastern Sun, the First Kyudo Shot, and a lhasang. Then, we will practice the Sadhana of Mahamudra and the Elixir of Life.

Around 10 AM: We will serve mimosas and begin our pot luck brunch.  Please bring something to contribute.  Our celebration continues with the Assistant Director and Shambhala Guide Oaths, New Members Oath, and throwing our I Ching.

This family friendly event includes an outdoor activity for Children around 11:00.

At noon, Sakyong Mipham Rinpoche will address the worldwide Shambhala community through an onlinehook-up. On Shambhala Day, members  of our community are encouraged to make a financial donation to help support the activities of Sakyong Mipham Rinpoche and our worldwide mandala.  We expect to conclude this portion of our celebration around 2 pm.
