Leadership in Centers

The group came up with "4 Noble Truths" of leadership:

  1. Leadership involves suffering
  2. The cause of suffering is fixed mind: e.g., over-scheduling, busy-ness, lack of commitment, lack of leadership
  3. Suffering can be overcome
  4. In order to overcome suffering related to leadership, there needs to be a sense of path

The group also came up with 2 questions: What do we have to offer the outside world? And What do we have to offer in centers? They decided to focus in the first instance on what we have to offer in our centers. The conclusion was the centers are laboratories in which to learn principles of enlightened leadership. For example, the "Sacred Path of Leadership program offered by Lance Brunner brunner@pop.uky.edu and Christie Cashman ccashman@shambhala.org demonstrated how Shambhala principles can be used to foster leadership.

Pith statement and koan:

The principles of the three courts provide a basis for carrying Shambhala wisdom into both our centers and our world.

If you meet enlightened leadership in your center, kill it!
