Recommendation

We recognized common goals/vision. We all want:

  1. To bring more arts/culture into our individual lives, our centers, our world.
  2. To lessen the distinction between professional and amateur "artists."
  3. To create art which is more participatory, which cuts through the distinction between artists and audience and sangha and local communities.
  4. To recognize art and contemplative arts as path and process as compared to product and consumerism.
  5. to create collaborations with local and international sangha members to create listing/network of artists and art as path to promote this. Develop teachers/teachings and knowledge of grants and funding.
  6. To develop a joint sponsorship of teachers and artists at our centers worldwide. Arts/Culture would become more accessible with bigger "names." this could bring us towards hitting the big time.
  7. To recognize that Nalanda (as the third gate) should help to develop and celebrate arts/culture as well as to teach the various contemplative arts. Nalanda can be used to facilitate/coordinate/promote the experience of culture -- more international communication is needed for this.
  8. We want
    more bravery,
    more respect, and
    more open-mindedness
in our approach to the arts.
  9. Individuals are working on ideas at their local centers: develop Nalanda website, piano in the shrine room, opening up communication. Also writing a statement from the group to share. At the international level, we are looking at the possibly writing an article for the Shambhala Sun and creating a directory of arts/culture/Nalanda coordinator for each center.
