Shambhala Prison Community

The Shambhala Prison Community (SPC) was founded in Colorado in 1996 in consultation with Sakyong Mipham, Rinpoche. We have participated in initiating meditation groups in 16 prisons and jails in the United States and internationally, and provide correspondence with prisoners in many more.

The SPC supports the meditation practice of prisoners by providing:

1) Qualified volunteers (meditation instructors) to visit prisoners and prison groups in a ministerial capacity.

2) Meditation instructors who correspond with interested prisoners.

3) Meditation cushions, books, tapes and other practice materials.

4) Support for forming and ongoing prison dharma groups.

The SPC welcomes inquiries and offers of help of all kinds. Please communicate with Bill Karelis, Roland Cohen or Margot Neuman at:
