Sakyong Mipham Rinpoche seated at the Golden Temple of Namdroling Monastery during the Manjushri abhishekas. Behind him is a gilded stupa containing relics of his predecessor, Mipham the Great.

His Holiness Penor Rinpoche conducting the Jampal Gyudlug abhisheka, the tantric lineage of Manjushri. He is seen here touching the Sakyong's head with an image of four-armed Manjushri, one of the bodhisattva's peaceful emanations.

Four-armed Manjushri. This larger-than-life-size rupa is in the newly opened Sangdopalri Temple at Namdroling. The main hall of the four-storey temple is devoted to Padmasambhava and his consort Yeshe Tsogyal. The sword held by Manjushri represents wisdom (prajna). The bow and arrow symbolize the piercing of ignorance. He holds the Prajnaparmita teachings, the mind essence of all the buddhas, on a lotus -- indicating that although he arises in samsara he is not stained by it.
