The Shambhala International Delegation to Tibet
June 6 - July 16, 2001

As a Tibetan, I have been wanting to go to Tibet and see the places I have been hearing about for so long -- Sakyong Mipham Rinpoche

We are happy to announce that we have received the visas and the Sakyong's journey is definitely set for June 6- July 16, 2001. This trip is meaningful for the Shambhlala community. The Sakyong will lead a delegation of Shambhala volunteers to Tibet with the aspiration to open and deepen a connection between Shambhala and the Surmang monasteries, the monasteries of the Vidyadhara, Chögyam Trungpa Rinpoche.

The Sakyong and his entourage will visit Surmang, the monasteries of the Vidyadhara Chögyam Trungpa Rinpoche. He will also fulfill the invitation of the last several years to visit the monastery and homeland of Jamgön Mipham Rinpoche. The trip will include visiting Gesar of Ling's birthplace as well as several Kagyü and Nyingma monasteries. The Sakyong will visit and receive teachings from His Holiness Jigme Puntsok Rinpoche, one of the great teachers of Tibet. (see the itinerary)

The Sakyong will be accompanied by his mother, Lady Kunchok; Khenpo Tsering (Khenpo from Surmang); Khenpo Chonam (from Golok, connected with Mipham Rinpoche's lineage); and volunteers from the Shambhala International organization, (for support and security). (See the list of participants)

We would like to invite all Shambhala community members and friends to participate in supporting this trip. This is a collective journey, connecting us with our heritage.

Thus far The Shambhala Trust has exhibited leadership in providing generous initial offerings but we have not reached our goal in terms of funding this trip.

The goal of gathering support is two-fold: financial funds and unanimity of support from the community. Five dollars or five thousand, no gift is too small, nor is it too large. Let us all do our part to help launch this historic event.

All donations are tax deductible in the US or Canada. To make a donation please send checks (made to SHAMBHALA INTERNATIONAL), credit card or money orders to:

Shambhala would also like to express its support for the work of the Surmang Foundation which has, under the leadership of Mr. Lee Weingrad, for over ten years provided support and benefit to Surmang and the surrounding communities. Mr. Weingrad has our deep appreciation for this irreplaceable work and for his great exertion in organizing and guiding this pilgrimage. Shambhala supports the work of the Surmang Foundation and encourages interested Shambhala members to take part in their activities.
