Supporting Shambhala Monasticism
It was the heartfelt wish of the Vidyadhara, Chögyam Trungpa Rinpoche that the monastic tradition be developed and nurtured in the West. We are therefore delighted that in 2009 Gampo Abbey is celebrating the 25th anniversary of its founding. With the early guidance and continued blessing of our Abbot, the Venerable Thrangu Rinpoche and the direction of the Sakyong Mipham Rinpoche, the Gampo Acharya Ani Pema Chödrön is leading the monastic community at Gampo Abbey in its deepening exploration of Shambhala monasticism. Gampo Abbey is seeking support for the following:
Building Reserves – long term funding to create a reserve fund to assist with major maintenance projects for the main monastery Gampo Abbey and the long term retreat center Sopa Choling.
Fire Safety Renovation Fund – working in cooperation with the Nova Scotia Fire Marshall’s office we need to raise $100,000 over the next three years in order to improve the fire safety of the main monastery building.
Monastic Support - provides financial support for life monastics to assist with basic living costs, medical and dental expenses, as well as travel costs to participate in dharma programs.
Shedra Scholarships – assistance for lay and monastics residents to cover the costs of tuition for the monastic college at Gampo Abbey which provides an in-depth program of study in a curriculum of Tibetan Buddhist studies.
Three Year Retreat Scholarships – provides support for those who wish to participate in the three year retreat program offered at the Sopa Choling long term retreat center.
Unrestricted – to support the basic operating costs of running the monastery.
