MENTORED STUDENT PROGRAM (Work-Study)*
Operations Sphere Assistant (positions open
now and for the summer):
Work-time will be split between the kitchen and our accommodations
and environment department year’ round, with some opportunity
to work outside during the warmer weather. If you’re
flexible, have a good sense of humor, and can work both independently
and as a member of a team, this is a good job for you!
Baker/Swing Cook (position open now):
If you enjoy baking bread and desserts, as well as preparing
meals for large numbers, have we got a job for you! Join our
kitchen crew and provide sustenance for many grateful sentient
beings.
Computer/Web Site Assistant (position open
now):
Karme Choling is internally wired with our own network, and
we rely on our data base for registrations, mailings, etc.
Occasionally things don’t work and anxiety levels start
to rise. If you feel comfortable working with both computers
and panicked staff members, you will be a welcome addition
indeed.
Administration Sphere Assistants
Development Emphasis (position open now):
Help Karme Choling continue to flourish by working with donors
directly, organizing various activities, and through writing,
designing, and supervising mailings. Computer and data entry
skills are necessary. A great opportunity for a creative person!
Registration Office Emphasis (position
open in May): A great job for a person who enjoys interacting
with the public and is not intimidated by phone systems and
data entry. If you enjoy multi-tasking and have the ability
to face a variety of situations with a sense of humor, you’ll
love this one.
Practice & Education Sphere Assistant
(position open now):
Shrine Master is the primary responsibility in this position,
and it requires a member of the Shambhala Buddhist sangha
who loves ritual and who is either a tantrika or a sadhaka.
Other duties include supporting the activities of both internal
and external practice, study, and programs at Karme Choling.
Programs Asst./Aloka (position open in June)
Our Aloka person is responsible for liasoning with parents
and teachers in caring for the children of participants who
come to our summer programs. Summer camp counseling or teaching
experience is helpful.
*Mentored Scholarship Program participants receive a dormitory
room, board, a small monthly stipend for incidental expenses,
and accrued program credit/retreat time. Except for the summer,
MSP’s are invited to stay from 6 months to 1 year.
