- The subject of the July review was the draft recommendations from the Working Group:
- Funding Model, with the following parts:
- Funding by North American Centers and Groups
- Funding by North American Practice Centers
- Funding by Regions Outside North America
- Overall Funding Plan
- Hire A CFO for Shambhala International
- Reporting Recommendations
All of the recommendations were developed by subcommittees of the Working Group except for “Funding by North American Centers and Groups”, which was developed by this review group.
- Discussion highlights:
- The group discussed the current draft of the Funding Model. Concensus was the recommendations were well thought out and made sense.
- Clarifying point: all the participating pilot centers have agreed on the principle of revenue transfer. Some are still working on the issue of how much they could contribute next year.
- Clarifying point: If a center hosts a major teacher visit for which a revenue split has been predetermined, or if a center co-hosts a major event and splits the revenue with other groups, then only the net revenue to the center would be included in gross unrestricted revenue.
- Several participants reported on discussions at their local center Board and/or Council. Common themes:
- General support of all recommendations
- Strong support for hiring of a CFO
- Support for the principle of revenue transfer, and in most cases also the 4-6% for 2005
- Happy to see the reporting recommendations
- Eagerness to see the recommended services
- Concern for how to explain the recommendations to the local communities (Connie noted that the Communication Working group will be putting together a toolkit for center directors to help them with local review and discussion of the various reports and recommendations).
- Concern for how to make clear that transfers don’t replace individual donations
- Next steps.
- The Mandala Governing Council will review the recommendations at their meeting the end of July. The results of that meeting will be communicated to the group, and if necessary, a conference call will be scheduled.
- Additional conference calls will be scheduled based on what the Working Group does between now and November (new or revised recommendations).
Thank you all for your ongoing participation!
