Shambhala Communications Strategy -- Next Steps
Nov 14, 2011
The Kalapa Council has received the results of a wide-ranging survey of Shambhala's worldwide communications -- involving the needs of members, groups, centres and global outreach.
The survey was commissioned immediately after Shambhala Day as part of our mandala-wide drive to fulfill the vision of our lineage. The Kalapa Council asked Mr Larry Barnett, a communications professional, who recently served as the director of the Sonoma Shambhala Center, to conduct the survey. His experience of leading a small centre has contributed to his work.
As a result of his thorough and insightful work with the survey, the Executive Director, Ms Carolyn Mandelker, with the approval of the Sakyong, has now appointed Larry to fill the position of Director of Communications on the Kalapa Executive. His role will be to examine our existing communications structure and make proposals for the creation of a cohesive communications operation for the Shambhala mandala. This will include integrating our communication structure to serve both the internal and public requirements of the mandala at this time of transition and growth.

In addition, as part of the effort to transform Shambhala's communications, Ms Sophie Leger -- a bilingual former centre director from Montreal -- is now conducting a survey of all Shambhala's multilingual operations. She is interviewing the coordinators of all the translation committees to find out what is working, what is not, and what needs to be done to make significant progress in becoming a much more multilingual mandala. Her report will contribute greatly to the improvement of Shambhala's worldwide communications.
