Sakyong Appoints New Acharya and Sakyong Ladrang Members
Aug 31, 2011
The Office of the Kalapa Court is pleased to announce that two days ago, during his teachings at Dorje Denma Ling, the Sakyong, Jamgon Mipham Rinpoche formally appointed Noel McLellan to the position of acharya, and Landon Mallery and Jeff Rosen as members of the Sakyong Ladrang.
Mr McLellan joins over thirty active acharyas in spreading the Shambhala teachings; performing vows and lungs (reading transmissions); and representing the Sakyong both within and beyond the Shambhala community. Mr McLellan is the first acharya from the second generation of Shambhala warriors. He received his early education at Alaya School in Boulder; has been an active member of the Dorje Kasung for many years, serving on the Council of the Makkyi Rabjam as Kusung Dapon; and is currently living with his family in Halifax where he teaches at the Shambhala School. He will be focusing on the training of the next generation of leaders to propagate the vision and culture of Shambhala.
Messrs Mallery and Rosen, of Halifax, are the first Canadian member of the Sakyong Ladrang. The Sakyong Ladrang was formed in 2009 by the Sakyong and Sakyong Wangmo to help sustain and support them in their activities and to safeguard the sacred holdings of the Sakyong Lineage to ensure the continuity of the Shambhala teachings. Mr Rosen has supported the Sakyong in many ways over several decades. Mr Mallery has served the Sakyong in many capacities, most recently coordinating the remodelling of the Halifax Kalapa Court.
