Projects of Khandro Tseyang
Khandro Tseyang - the wife of the Sakyong, Jamgon Mipham Rinpoche and the future Sakyong Wangmo of Shambhala - has undertaken a variety of projects for the benefit of the Shambhala sangha and its extended community.
Monk Sponsorship
Khandro Tseyang's father, His Eminence Terton Namkha Drimed Rabjam Rinpoche, has built and now operates Tibetan Buddhist monasteries in India and Nepal,
including the Rigon Tashi Choeling monastery in Pharping, Nepal - near Kathmandu - where The Sakyong stayed on retreat during Spring 2007.
There are currently over 185 monks residing and
training at Rigon Tashi
Choeling, and over half of them rely on sponsorship.
Young monks at Rigon Tashi Choeling
Khandro Tseyang has been involved in care for the monks, and has written a letter to the Shambhala sangha, describing the importance and the benefits of sponsorship, to both sponsors and monks, as well as the role of sponsorship in preserving our shared lineages, including the lineage of King Gesar of Ling. (Rigon Tashi
Choeling's shrine building contains the first Gesar temple built in Nepal, as well as shrines and statues of Gesar, Padmasambhava and Dorje Trolo.)
For a relatively small amount in Western
currencies, you can sponsor a monk for an entire year. Sponsorship is
coordinated through Ripa Ladrang, the foundation of His Eminence in the
West.
Excerpts from Khandro Tseyang's Letter
Khandro Tseyang has written a letter to the Shambhala sangha about monk sponsorship. Here is an excerpt:
"My Dear Dharma Friends of Shambhala,
I am writing to you concerning something that is close to my heart - that is, the well-being of the monks at Rigon Tashi Choeling, my father H.E. Terton Namkha Drimed Rabjam Rinpoche's monastery in Pharping, Nepal.
...The role of sponsor is an ancient one, going back to the time of the Buddha... It is a wonderful way to participate in the progress and journey of a young monastic practitioner."
