The Way of Shambhala

The Way of Shambhala provides a structured path of meditation and a complete introduction to the foundations of Shambhala Buddhism — wisdom teachings and practices rooted in the ancient traditions of Shambhala and Tibetan Buddhism. The program consists of weekly courses and weekend levels, integrating study and practice. Suitable for both beginning and experienced meditators, and open to people of any spiritual tradition, this core path explores mindfulness-awareness meditation and teachings on contentment, joy, fearlessnesss, and wisdom, all with an emhasis on applicaton in everyday life.

The weekends include meditation instruction, sitting and walking meditation, talks by the program Director, personal interviews, and group discussion. The 5-week classes include guided meditation, contemplations, short talks and group discussions on a sequence of topics, yoga or other practices.

Students may choose to participate in the weekends exclusively, or some of the weeknight courses (without doing the weekends).

Rather than always seeking contentment in things, achievements or relationships, with meditation practice we relax with ourselves and appreciate simple human experiences. Difficult emotions and the challenges of life can be met with gentleness, mindfulness and inquisitiveness. Classes include talks, discussion, contemplation and other exercises.

Participation in the Center’s Monday evening meditation sessions at 6pm is encouraged.

*Although designed to follow Shambhala Training Level II, Birth of the Warrior, this class may be taken separately.

**As always, we do not want financial circumstances to be a barrier to participation in this class; if you are unable to afford the suggested amount, please contact Nancy Green at ShambhalaTraining@dcshambhala.org. Also, please contact Nancy if you have questions about the program.
