Open to Everyone! Midsummer’s Day
Date: Saturday, June 18, 2011 Time: Noon-4pm Location:
The Home of Rex Brigham
3217 North Pershing Drive
Arlington, VA 22201 Suggested donation: $10 (children free). Pot luck affair.
The Shambhala community comes together in many ways – to practice, learn, serve others — and to celebrate! By joining spiritual practice with the practicalities, challenges, and joys of everyday life, we aspire to create a society that expresses the dignity of human experience.
Shambhala seasonal celebrations are called nyida days, from the Tibetan words nyima (sun) and dawa (moon), and they occur on or near the days of the equinoxes and solstices. Midsummer’s Day is a celebration of the Nyida day associated with the summer solstice. Come and celebrate the changing of seasons Shambhala style! This gathering is an opportunity for families and friends to enjoy summer fun and a potluck picnic lunch together. Everyone is welcome.
The main courses will be provided by the Center, such as cookout meats and veggie patties, condiments, non-alcoholic beverages, some beer and wine. Participants are asked to bring side dishes and desserts. Participants are also asked to make a nominal donation to cover the costs of the main course foods and supplies.
Plans for the afternoon include a lhasang, raffle, games, and a special welcome for new sangha members. Assistance is needed with:
• Set-up on Friday and/or Saturday morning
• Clean up
• Organizing raffle
• Overseeing gaming activities
• Food shopping
Some of these roles may be filled but the more the merrier so please check in...
