Contemplative Arts
Creativity and the Invisible World
with visiting teacher Bill Scheffel
Poet, filmmaker, and long-time student of the Shambhala lineage, Bill Scheffel, will draw from his background in creative writing, visual art, and study of the I Ching, to explore the drala principle, the elemental presence of the world available to us through our sense perceptions.
Bill will show his film Cambodia: Lord Mukpo’s Dream Time—an extraordinary 30-minute documentary based on footage taken in Cambodia that illuminates with arresting clarity the presence of the sacred in our world. He will give a talk on the drala principle and a brief introduction to the workshop.
The weekend will include exercises to explore the senses, creative writing practice, and illustrations of the drala principle in art and in the lives of a variety of artists.
Bill will also be available for individual I Ching consultations, an invaluable tool not only for life decisions but for deepening our lives as meditators.
Bill Scheffel is a senior director of Shambhala Training. During 12 years at Naropa University, he taught courses on writing and poetry and also led a writing workshop for people recovering from stroke and head injuries. He is the author of the book Loving-kindness Meditation. Learn more at www.westernmountain.org.
