Visit of Sakyong Mipham Rinpoche
to Washington DC

Acharya Installation and Community Address
On Monday, March 8, 2004, to a very full shrine room set up with over 85 chairs, we were honored to host the installation of five new Acharyas (senior teachers) coming from several cities.

The new acharyas: Emily Bower (Boston); Mitchell Levy (Providence, RI); Simon Luna (Santiago, Chile); Bill McKeever (Shambhala Mountain Center) and Eric Spiegel (New York City) were installed in a very powerful and uplifted ceremony surrounded by their family members and friends totaling around 30.

Honored guests included members of the Mukpo family - Lady Diana Mukpo, Ashoka Mukpo and David Mukpo.

Public Talk at All Souls Unitarian Church
On Friday, March 12, 2004, at the All Souls Unitarian Church, just down the street from the White House, decorated with Shambhala Banners hanging from high and exquisite ikebana arrangements adorned with branches of cherry blossoms, Sakyong Mipham Rinpoche splendidly attired in robes of orange and red took his seat in front of an audience of 450-500 people. The Sakyong presented a compelling and heartfelt talk about meditation practice — as being seen not as some mystical experience but very ordinary and necessary to our basic needs as humans.
