Mrs. Sally Yukawa - The Contemplative Art of  Ikebana

at the Vancouver Shambhala Centre

Yu Kawa

Mrs. Sally Yukawa has been a student of ikebana the greater part of her adult life. She began studying and practicing the art of Japanese flower arranging purely for her own pleasure. Now she shares this pleasure with others through teaching and some commercial floristry. With a high degree of certification from Sogetsu School headquarters, Tokyo, Japan, she has given demonstrations and exhibited widely in the Lower Mainland. In addition to her longtime association with the Vancouver Shambhala Centre, she has been a sensei or teacher at Steveston Community Centre, for Richmond School Board, White Rock Seniors’ Centre, Roundhouse Community Centre and the Vancouver Shambhala Centre. Besides instructing groups and private students, she has conducted therapy workshops for the Workers Compensation Board.

Mrs. Yukawa is presently fascinated with the challenge of using unconventional ikebana materials such as sheet metal and granite slabs in her sculptural creations.  ikebana
