The Salisbury Shambhala Study Group
is a meditation based group in Salisbury, MD that emphasizes the practices of Buddhism, Shambhala Training, and Nalanda. It is one of many such groups around the world under the parent organization of Shambhala International.Shambhala International is a large and colorful tent with many activities taking place under its broad roof. We refer to the doors to this tent as the three gates: namely Vajradhatu, Shambhala Training, and Nalanda. These gates represent the activities of many organizations originally founded by
Chögyam Trungpa Rinpoche. Today, the Sakyong Mipham Rinpoche heads Shambhala International.
The Three Gates
Each gate is a way of entering the awake world of enlightened mind
.Vajradhatu, a path of traditional Buddhist teachings, offers a comprehensive path of Buddhist meditation and study through a network of local centers known as Dharmadhatus. The 2,500-year-old Buddhist tradition provides a well-defined, graduated method of developing skillful action and wisdom through meditation practice.
Shambhala Training is a secular path of spiritual training. The Shambhala Training path is one of fearless and gentle action in the world; it is open to people who follow any spiritual tradition or who have chosen no particular spiritual tradition.
Nalanda brings a contemplative perspective to the arts, health, education, and business. It includes such traditional disciplines as poetics, visual art, kyudo (archery), ikebana (flower arranging), and tea ceremony. Click here for more details.
