How To Become A Member Of
The Hartford Shambhala Meditation Group
All are welcome free of charge to join us in meditation lessons or
practice. No financial obligation is required to attend sittings or
classes on a weekly basis.
You become a member by making a commitment to the group.
How?
-
Commit yourself to ongoing practice and study. This is the heart of
everything we do.
- Make a volunteer commitment. Presenting the teachings, organizing
weekly sittings, creating publicity and mailings, and organizing programs
are done entirely by volunteers. You do not have to be a long-time
practitioner to participate in this way.
- Make a monthly financial commitment to the Group. Monthly dues or
donations provide predictable support for ongoing activities and will be
essential in our long-term plan to procure and maintain a permanent
physical space for the HSMG where we can offer daily practice opportunities
and regular programs.
- Make a pledge to Shambhala International. Their work is essential to
local centers, including ours. Please feel free to ask one of the
coordinators of the HSMG for more information about the activities of
Shambhala International.
The suggested monthly donation is $20 for full members, but you may
contribute with whatever you feel comfortable or can afford. No money is
required to participate in the Group´s activities. Donations enable us to
cover the costs of publicity, mailings, and materials needed for sitting
practice such as cushions, candles, etc., as well as to make a donation to
the Quaker Center.
After you have been practicing for a while and decide that you want to
become more committed, talk to one of the coordinators about membership.
Members will receive a discount on classes and programs offered at the
Center.
If you have questions about how much you can afford to pledge as a monthly
donation, or any other questions about the finances of the Group, please
ask to talk to one of the HSMG coordinators. |
