Parinirvana Day
Friday, April 4, 2008
Celebrate the life and teachings of the Venerable Chögyam Trungpa Rinpoche, founder of Shambhala.
In 1987 the founder of Shambhala International passed into parinirvana at the young age of 47. Each year since, the Shambhala community has gathered on the anniversary of his passing to practice and celebrate his incredible life of service to this world.
This year the Durham Shambhala Center will gather outside at 7am for a lhasang or purification ceremony. This ceremony was introduced to us by the Vidyadhara as a way to remove obstacles to beneficial activity and to connect with the elemental power in the world.
The ceremony will be followed by a short meditation practice in the shrineroom. We will then go out to breakfast at a local restaurant near the center.
In the evening, beginning at 7pm we will hold a feast practice and recite the Sadhana of Mahamudra. Everyone is invited. We will show a short video of Trungpa, Rinpoche teaching that we recently received from the archives. This practice should last until about 10pm.
Please RSVP to rreneecowan@gmail.com and bring a dish to share or $8 to the feast. Please include what you are bringing in your RSVP.
