About
Our Center |
The Shambhala School of Buddhist Studies (SSBS) is a practice and study program for anyone interested in learning about Buddhism and meditation. Our classes are taught by qualified teachers and usually contain an interesting mixture of total beginners and practitioners with many years of experience. Students do not need to become Buddhists to take these courses, although that opportunity is provided. All programs in the Shambhala School of Buddhist Studies are open to beginning and intermediate practitioners, as well as to anyone who would like to learn more about Buddhism in general. The curriculum includes 16 courses that meet weekly and end with a one-day practice intensive. These are augmented with weekend programs that are usually directed by senior teachers of the greater Shambhala community. Our principal teacher, Dr. Janice Glowski has been practicing and studying Buddhism since 1991 and is a qualified meditation instructor with the Shambhala lineage. Her formal education includes a Master's degree in Comparative Religious Studies and a Ph.D. in Asian Art History, with specializations in South Asian, Himalayan and Buddhist art.
