Welcome to the
Hartford Shambhala Meditation Group

The Hartford Shambhala Study Group (HSMG) is a branch of Shambhala International, an association of meditation centers that provide instruction in mindfulness-awareness meditation as practiced within the Buddhist and Shambhala traditions. The centers also provide educational programs in a variety of other contemplative disciplines.

Shambhala International was founded by Tibetan meditation master and scholar Chögyam Trungpa, Rinpoche, the author of Cutting Through Spiritual Materialism, The Myth of Freedom, and Shambhala: The Sacred Path of the Warrior, and founder of the Naropa Institute (now Naropa University) in Boulder, Colorado. He was one of the most prominent meditation teachers of our time and a pioneer in bringing Buddhism to the West.

At present, Shambhala International is directed by Trungpa Rinpoche´s son and spiritual heir, Sakyong Mipham, Rinpoche, who is a holder of both the Kagyu and Nyingma Lineages of Tibetan Buddhism, as well as the Shambhala Lineage, propagated by his father.

HSMG started in the spring of 1997. It presently offers regular practice and study of meditation as taught within the Tibetan Buddhist and Shambhala Training traditions. Meditation instruction by authorized instructors is available at no cost.
