"If we say, for example, 'May the suffering of all sentient beings cease and may they enjoy happiness,' the mind that contemplates this has to be able to remain in the space of compassion long enough to stabilize, to grow. If it can't stay there, then bodhicitta will never develop; it will never take root."

- Jamgön Mipham Rinpoche

The Hartford Shambhala Meditation Group (HSMG) is a branch of Shambhala International, an association of meditation centers that provide instruction in mindfulness-awareness meditation as practiced within the Buddhist and Shambhala traditions.

The HSMG was formed in the Spring of 1997. We offer a regular schedule of meditation practice and study. Meditation instruction is available at no cost, and is provided by specially trained and authorized senior students.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are you a onetime, sometime, or perhaps once again meditator?

Ever think about resuming your practice? Have you had meditation instruction, sat with our group once or several times? Have you forgotten the whole thing, but would like to start fresh?

We are always happy to have you join us on Wednesday nights, return for a refresher of basic instruction, arrange for a one-to-one meeting with a meditation instructor to discuss your practice, or just speak with you on the phone.
