| Welcome The Davis Shambhala Meditation Center offers practice and study in the lineage of Shambhala Buddhism, unique in the world of Western Buddhism. This lineage combines the teachings of the Kagyü and Nyingma lineages of Tibetan Buddhism with the Shambhala view of living an uplifted life, fully engaged with the world. Free meditation instruction is available at 9 a.m. Sunday, 7:00 p.m. Thursday, or by special appointment. We are part of Shambhala International, a community of meditation centers founded in 1973 by Chögyam Trungpa Rinpoche, a Tibetan Buddhist meditation master, artist, author, and poet. Today, the Shambhala tradition is led by Trungpa Rinpoche's son, Sakyong Mipham Rinpoche. Our Northern California Shambhala senior dharma teacher is Pema Chödrön.
We welcome all and especially those who wish to practice and study mindfulness, awareness, and loving-kindness as inspired by the Buddhist and Shambhala paths.
"Life's work is to wake up, to let the things that enter into the circle wake you up rather than put you to sleep. The only way to do this is to open, be curious, and develop some sense of sympathy for everything that comes along, to get to know its nature and let it teach you what it will."
- Pema Chödrön from her book, The Wisdom of No Escape .
