The Shambhala Archives The year of the Fire Ox has been a busy, successful
year for the Shambhala Archives. The Shambhala community truly honoured
the Tenth Anniversary of the Parinirvana of the Vidyadhara the Venerable
Chögyam Trungpa, Rinpoche, by donating generously to the Archives,
enabling us to launch Audio Recovery of the more than 10,000 sound recordings
in our vaults. The purchase of the Sonic Solutions Digital Audio Workstation
this year will allow us to remaster and restore many precious dharma teachings
over the next decade.
The annotated list of our achievements this year,
which follows, shows that we continue to move forward with the immense
but rewarding work of preserving the dharma legacy of Chögyam Trungpa
Rinpoche; his son and spiritual heir, Jampal Mipham Rinpoche, and many
other teachers.
As we approach the year of the Earth Tiger, we need
your ongoing support. Our focus for 1998 is the restoration and remastering
of 100 endangered sound recordings, beginning with the tapes of the 1973
Vajradhatu Seminary. These tapes are now more than twenty-five years old,
and they are extraordinarily precious.
1998 also brings a change in the leadership of the
Shambhala Archives. The director of the Archives, Mrs. Carolyn Gimian,
has announced her resignation as of April 4, 1998. Mrs. Gimian will continue
to serve as an adviser to the Archives and hopes to work on special projects,
including the creation of an endowment for the Archives and for the propagation
of the dharma teachings of Chögyam Trungpa, Rinpoche. During the search
for a new director, the staff of the Archives continue the work of the
preservation and safekeeping of our holdings.
We would all like to profoundly thank Mrs. Gimian for the work she has
accomplished over the last decade. With these changes, the support of the
Dharma Ocean Society is all the more important. Please continue to give
generously to the work of the Shambhala Archives. We thank you all for
your contributions in 1997.
Yours in the ocean of dharma,
The Staff of the Shambhala Archives
